Great teams don't happen by chance—they're built with intention. Throughout February in my weekly email, we've explored the key elements that make a team thrive. Here are short summaries of three powerful strategies to elevate your team and foster lasting success:

  1. Balance Your Team with Diverse Roles Every successful team needs a mix of these four essential roles:

  • Doer: Executes with urgency and focuses on results.

  • Analyzer: Organizes processes, analyzes data, and drives efficiency.

  • Communicator: Connects, motivates, and articulates the vision.

  • Creator: Innovates, dreams big, and brings fresh ideas.

A balanced team harnesses the strengths of each role, ensuring better collaboration and outcomes.

2. Lead with H.E.A.R.T. Great leadership is about more than managing tasks—it's about valuing people. The H.E.A.R.T. model helps you empower your team and nurture a culture of trust:

  • H: Hype Up the Hope – Encourage and inspire your team members (we all need a hype squad!).

  • E: Examine Your Team – Understand their communication styles and work preferences.

  • A: Ask What Matters – Discover their motivations and career aspirations.

  • R: Remember – Keep track of their preferences and growth goals.

  • T: Thank Them – Consistently show appreciation for their contributions.

When you lead with H.E.A.R.T., you create an environment where people feel seen, supported, and motivated to excel.

3. Use Team Assessments to Drive Growth Understanding your team's dynamics is crucial for building cohesion. Tools like Birkman, Insights Discovery, or Enneagram provide valuable insights into communication styles, strengths, and potential stress points.

Real-life example: At a team retreat, assessments revealed that most of my team members were introverts (like me!) who needed time for thoughtful processing. Recognizing this helped us bridge gaps with a more fast-paced partner team, improving collaboration and reducing friction.

Why It Matters:

  • Identify and resolve workstyle conflicts.

  • Enhance communication and collaboration.

  • Provide a shared language for discussing strengths and needs.

If you're serious about building a high-performing team, consider investing in professional assessments to unlock deeper insights.
