There's a ton of information we are bombarded with every day so the fact you clicked on a link to get here and take the time means a lot. Since your time is valuable, let's get right to it. I'm Gia and I stumbled into HR about 20 years ago. I graduated from THE illustrious North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC (AGGIE PRIDE!) and was searching for "now what" after graduation?

I had majored in physics in college (huh? How did you get into HR? Keep reading…) and I knew during my sophomore year it wasn't what I wanted to do (I wanted to work for NASA and study the stars). But, my parents were like…"that's fine. Do whatever you want but we're only paying for 4 years". So, I decided to stick with that major to ensure I graduated in 4 years.

Once I graduated, I  intentionally chose a job with no math and science (because I was over it) and landed in Human Resources. I would later come to find out that the logic and problem solving I learned in college was well suited for HR!

Anyway, I enjoyed the business side of things and pursued my MBA and kept going in HR. I started in the benefits, compensation and operations side of HR and learned the foundations. Then I moved into HR business partner and really found my stride. I loved learning the business, counseling and advising leaders, and helping employees find rewarding work.

Fast forward 20 years later, I've had an amazing career with Fortune 500 companies and I'm embarking on a new adventure - launching my consultancy business, TalentWorks Consulting.

I'm passionate about helping leaders move their business forward and unlocking the potential of their team. I want to offer practical insights to help leaders develop their people. I'm a witness to the power of seeing every person on your team as a whole person with goals, dreams, ambitions, strengths, etc and then leveraging each person's strength to the benefit of the team. They are stoked to be operating in their strength and the energy is amazing!

Enough about me! What are some things you always wanted to know about HR? #AskHR
